Community Outreach
As a company, GEARS seeks to make a positive impact in its community and spread the word about the BEST program and about how our product can help clean up ocean pollution. GEARS participated in community outreach both before the competition and during the 2018 BEST season.
Pre-Competition
Georgia Washington Middle School IT Career Fair
(9:00 AM 02-02-18) In February, our mentor went to Georgia Washington Middle School, demonstrated our robot, and discussed opportunities to join a BEST robotics team. |
Capitol Heights Middle School IT Career Fair

Air Force Information Technology Conference Education Day (9:00 AM 08-29-18)
Members attended the Air Force Information Technology Conference (AFITC) and were able to listen to a technology seminar. The members did awesome things such as a virtual reality simulation. |
2018 Community Outreach
Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) Math, Computer Science, and Engineering Clubs
(1:00 PM 10-5-18) Four members of the briefing team gave an early version of the Marketing Presentation and a demo to the AUM Math, Computer Science, and Engineering Clubs. |
River Region Duck Dash
(11:00 AM 10-6-18) Our team "adopted" 25 rubber ducks and seven members attended the duck dash on the Coosa River in Wetumpka, AL. The "adoptions" support several charitable organizations in the river region. |
Montgomery Industry Partners (MIP)
(6:00 AM 10-12-18) Four members of the briefing team gave a modified version of the Marketing Presentation and a demo to MIP and received valuable feedback. |
River Region Rifles 4-H Club
(6:00 PM 10-15-18) Four members of the briefing team demonstrated our robot to about 30 people. |
Montgomery Amateur Radio Club (MARC)
(7:00 PM 10-15-18) Four members of the briefing team gave a modified version of the Marketing Presentation and a demo to MARC. |

Sponsor Reception
(5:30 PM 11-8-2018) Six members briefed our sponsors on the game, the results of War Eagle BEST, and the marketing presentation. They also demonstrated the operation of the robot. |
Hamfest Demo
(9:00 AM 11-10-18) Six members spent four hours answering questions and giving demonstrations of our robot to the public as they attended the Montgomery Amateur Radio Hamfest. |
